Born as Archibald Leach
on 18 January 1904 in England, died as Cary Grant on 29 November 1986 in
America. He shared a house
with Randolph Scott and married five times (Dyan
Cannon was #4) so was perhaps the George Clooney of his
generation.
Here he is in one of my
favourite films, His Girl Friday
(1940) with Rosalind Russell (the director was Howard Hawks,
script by Charles Lederer from the play by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur). The overlapping
dialogue predates Robert Altman
by a few years.
Sample quote:
“You had to marry me and spoil everything.”
