Mystic chicken
Charlie Charters,
a contender for the title of the greatest Fijian thriller writer ever (fans impatiently
await the follow-up to his brilliant Bolt
Action from 2010), reports that the latest issue of Private Eye (not online and never will be: Lord Gnome is not
silly) has this letter:
A friend returned from a
holiday in New Zealand and reported that at the airport she was puzzled by
announcements calling passengers to go immediately to “The Mystic Chicken”,
before she realised that this is NZ for “domestic check-in”.
A mondogreen (sp?).
ReplyDeleteA mondegreen indeed.
ReplyDeleteWas taken with your comments about Bolt Action so got it from my local library. Great read, great tight story and I am hanging out now for his next book, along with all his other fans. I do hope he is not a one-book wonder. Any hints here ...?
ReplyDeleteFurther on mondegreens: Aus commercial radio has been flogging lately the latest Daft Punk hit, which I heard the chorus, out of the side of my ears, as 'Mexican rugby' and asked out loud to much hilarity 'do Mexicans play rugby?' This morning I was delighted to see the video of US talk show host Steve Colbert punking Daft Punk's summer hit she's gonna 'get lucky'. Do watch it (in Mr Dilmah's phrasing).
